4 Simple Reasons Why Should You Teach Yourself Guitar

To teach or not to teach yourself guitar. I love this question. I love it because it's a very personal one...and also touches some of the core reasons why people are interested, passionate ...and sometimes CRAZY about learning the guitar.

In no particular order.

Reason 1: You Can Impress Your Friends & Family

You may not realize this, but most musicians (whether they admit it or not) are show-offs. Picking up the guitar and playing it in front of a crowed means that you have to have a lot of confidence and a streak of ego. Ego doesn't have to be a bad thing ...in fact, in this case it's an important trait to posses. It will enable you to have that desire to play and impress your friends and family when the opportunity arises.

Reason 2: You Feel Like You've Acquired a Special Skill

This is a biggie. How many times in your life have you felt like you have actually learnt a special skill all by yourself? By special skill, I mean something which only a handful of people know how to do properly. Learning the guitar is a special skill. It's something that many people simply do not know how to do. It will make you feel exceptionally good when you're blissfully aware that you have a skill which only a handful of individuals know about.

Reason 3: You Have A Recreational Outlet Which Is Self-Dependant

This is a great reason. Nearly everything that people to to pass their time outside of their work hours requires the dependency of another person. For example, going to a club, playing golf, football, baseball, etc... is normally only a valid exercise if you have another person accompanying you, ie. a friend. Playing the guitar doesn't require anyone! Just you and your guitar. And the feeling you get when you're playing just can't be beaten ... which leads me to my next reason.

Reason 4: You Feel Totally Liberated When You Play The Guitar

In my opinion, this is the best reason why anybody (and everybody!) should want to teach themselves guitar. This is also the hardest reason to explain. When you play the guitar, it makes you feel free. It actually takes you away into a different world in your mind and puts you on what some would call 'a natural high'. The music that you play will make you feel good and totally liberates you from the everyday trouble that life knocks on your door.

It may sound a little cheesy, but it's 100% true. When ever I've had the feeling of worry, playing my guitar eases the pain almost instantaneously. When you actually go through this, you won't believe how real this reason is.

Learning the guitar will be one of the best creative skills you will ever acquire in your life.
